Hi everyone! Ever wanted to master the beach waves for summer, BUT with no heat? All you need is a salt spray!
You can buy salt sprays from drugstores & supermarkets, but whats the fun in that? Might as well make your own for a cheaper price by using everyday household items!
Let's get into the DIY!
You can buy salt sprays from drugstores & supermarkets, but whats the fun in that? Might as well make your own for a cheaper price by using everyday household items!
Let's get into the DIY!
What you'll need:
- Spray bottle x1
- Table salt/rock salt
- Hair gel
- Hair oil
- Water
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon set
- Cup
- Filter (optional)
Step 1:
Fill up 1 cup of warm water, but only if you're using the spray the same day you're using it on you hair the same day. However, you can just use cold water as the salt will dissolve in the end. Pour the one cup into your mixing bowl/jug.
Step 2:
Add one table spoon of salt to the water. If you're using rock salt, you're going to have to grind the salt down to a finer finish.
Step 3:
Add a teaspoon your chosen hair oil. I'm using a coconut serum/oil. This gives the spray a scent and makes it less salt smelling. As well as this, oil gives your hair moisture that it needs so it won't dry out and feel ratty like it would without the oil.
Step 4:
Next, add a teaspoon of hair gel. This will act a form of hairspray and hold in the beachy waves. This also means you won't need to add in any hairspray after you've finished.
Step 5:
Mix the ingredients together until they have blended well. It should look like this!
Step 6:
Grab your filter and pour the mixture in the bottle. You don't necessarily need a filter you can just pour in the mixture from the bowl (Using a filter prevents spillage!)
Step 7:
Your spray is now ready to use! Decoration is optional. The great thing about making this, if you run out you can just make another load up!
For best results:
- Section your hair into 2 parts: a top section and bottom.
- Spray thoroughly until it's damp
- Wait around 15 - 30 seconds for the spray to set in
- Then CRUNCH!
If your hair takes a while to dry, you can do this before bed but here I've just done it after I've got ready as my hair doesn't take long to dry!
And thats it! I hope this has helped you out, let me know if this worked for you too! Just a little tip, use this on either day two or three hair. After a while your hair does feel a bit gritty so it's good to do it a day before you're going to wash it!
