As you know (due to my lack of posts a few weeks back) I have recently come home from my first solo trip to Canada to visit my family. I wanted to share with you all my experience out there along with what things we did etc. It will be a brief explanation as I don't think you want to read about 3 weeks of the trip in one post with extreme details! Enjoy reading.

Food:
I didn't think I was going to eat so much once I was out there, but lets put it this way: I sure ate more food than I would in a whole month. But was it worth it? YES! On my first night, my family took me to a restaurant that specialised in their ribs, they were so juicy and delicious and I must've been hungry, I was the first to finish them! I also had a lot of "firsts" with food out there. I got to try a chilli cheese dog, a pie from a pie iron, poutine, frozen yoghurt (definitely recommend raspberry and Oreos) and yes, I had a Tim Hortons. All were so delicious I would eat them at least once a day! Writing this is just making my mouth water! And one final first that I had whilst I was out there was peanut butter and jam (or jelly) sandwiches. How could I never come across this combination before?! It's now my number one snack. | |
Sites/views:
| I was lucky enough to go and see different sites of Ontario whilst I was out in Canada. My first sightseeing was going around Ottawa city with my cousin and walking around Parliament buildings. It looked like a miniature version of the Houses of Parliament in the UK which was weird for me to see! I also went on a boat cruise called the Island Queen Cruise which went around lots of different island across this gigantic lake, which I thought was the sea at some points! As well as this, I went to a historical reenactment called Saint Marie. It was an old Indian site and it told us the story of when the French came along and tried to show them ways of Christianity and their way of life. I found it very interesting to see all these types of things that would've happened back then! We did a lot of hiking as well and saw some beautiful sites such as Morris Island, Balm and Killbear beach, Moon river and many other gigantic lakes! |
Activities:
For the first time in my life, I went for a swim in a lake! This may not seem like a huge deal to you but I'm not a strong swimmer and I panic if I can't touch the bottom of the water. But once I was in, I didn't really want to get out! It was cold at first, but once you were in it was so refreshing. Also, we went to a water ski show in Bala. It was amazing! I thought water skiing would be simple, you know quite hard to do much on water... I was wrong! One of the most amazing thing they done was a 12 people pyramid, on water, on skis?! So much skill was in this show it was fantastic! And I went on a canoe trip up the river by the cottage we were staying at! I've never canoed so it didn't come naturally to me, but it was a lot of fun (even if my arm ached afterwards!) |
