Hi everyone!
A few months back I wrote a post on how to clean your makeup brushes but I never got into how you could clean your sponges/blenders correctly. For this post I will be showing/telling you how you can get rid of odd smells coming from your sponge & how to ensure bacteria has been drawn from the sponge! Lets get into it!

For this post I will be showing/telling you how you can get rid of odd smells coming from your sponge & how to ensure bacteria has been drawn from the sponge! Lets get into it!
What you'll need:
- Your chosen dirty makeup sponge
- A bowl filled with an inch of water
- A micro wave
- Hand soap (with a amazing scent!)
To get rid of bacteria
If you apply your makeup by sponge or by a beauty blender, you may realise over time that it will begin to start smelling. This happens more with beauty blenders since they need to be damp before use and after some time that builds up and it will begin to smell vile. The smell that is caused is all the bacteria in the middle of the sponge and when using the unclean sponge, you will probably get breakouts over the skin since thats where it will be transferring to!
So how will you get over this issue? May sound silly to you but you will put your sponge in the microwave! Place your sponge in a bowl with an inch of water. The water will take in and out the foundation thats in the centre of the sponge and the water will appear to be cloudy when finished.

Micro wave time guide:
For beauty blenders, the best time period to put them in the microwave would be around 1:00.
For regular makeup sponges place them in for 0:30.

To get rid of smells
After putting your chosen sponge in the microwave, sometimes the damp smell may not have fully gone away. Or you want there to be a scent so when you use the sponge it is more...satisfying? (It's the little things...) So there are two simple steps:
1) Grab a bar of soap, lather up your hands and sponge then rinse until water runs clear.
2) Or you can follow the steps in my brush cleaner post since it will apply the same principles and give the same effect.

And there you go! I would do this to my sponges every 2 months or so, too much cleaning will cause the sponge to start to break/show cracks. I hope this has helped you out, let me know in the comments if you have any other tips on cleaning sponges!
